We just love Montana!
Went for a few mountain bike rides in Whitefish, Montana. One on the ski resort mountain - Summit Trail. We stopped and picked some huckleberries along the ride. We heard that the price of huckleberries is currently $58 a gallon - because the snow pack this year took so long to melt in the high country the hucks didn't do so well. We're enjoying the 2 quarts that took us nearly 3 hours to pick!!
The next day we did another ride - The Whitefish Trail and then some. Lots of fun rolling hills.
Spending some time canoeing and relaxing on Bull Lake in Kootenai National Forest.
After some great riding, running and canoeing, it was time to head back in to the woods for another backpacking trip. This time, we did a 32 mile loop in the Great Burn area of the Lolo National Forest.
Huge cedar forests hiking in.
Hiking along the boundary line between Idaho and Montana.
Sunset on the lake - night 2.
Stopping again to pick huckleberries around 6,200 feet this late in the season. We think we got the last of them!
This is a portion of the trail!
K-bo somewhere in there.
Hiked out on Wednesday. Spent Thursday at the trailhead resting our feet and reading by the campfire all day.
We drove to Missoula today and are researching our next hike and trying to stay clear of the wildfires in the Lolo and Bitterroot National Forests in Idaho and Montana. The summer is going (has gone) by quickly and we're hoping to get a few more backpacking trips in before it starts snowing in the mountains. It has actually been pretty peaceful the past few weeks with all the summer crowds gone and now that we are out of the national parks...sometimes we go days without seeing another person on the trail or in the backcountry! We love it!
